Weather Situation

A slow moving high near New Zealand will maintain a firm ridge over southern Queensland coast during the forecast period. A monsoon trough extends from tropical cyclone Lam to a tropical low in the Coral Sea that is expected to move onto the Capricornia or Wide Bay coast on Friday morning as a tropical cyclone. A trough extending to the south of the low will approach the southern Queensland coast during Thursday and Friday. Forecasts are highly dependent on the development and movement of the low in the Coral Sea.

Tropical System Location

At 10:00 pm EST Tropical Cyclone Marcia was located about 370 nautical miles northeast of Yeppoon and 425 nautical miles north northeast of Bundaberg. Centre located near 18.1S 154.6E. Recent movement has been towards the south southwest at 12 knots.

Winds : Southeasterly 25 to 30 knots.

Seas : 2.5 to 3 metres.

Swell : Easterly 1.5 to 2 metres, tending southeasterly 1.5 metres by early evening, then tending easterly 1.5 to 2 metres later in the evening.

Weather : Cloudy. 95% chance of rain. The chance of a thunderstorm.

Caution : Large and powerful surf conditions are expected to be hazardous for coastal activities such as crossing bars by boat and rock fishing.

Solid swell in the 6foot+range however very wind affected along the open beach breaks with the onshore conditions. Once again all roads leading to Noosa with the cleaner conditions at Ti-Tree, Nationals through to First Point. It will be crowded, so be patient.. The Bluff at Alexandra Headland and Mooloolaba on the high tide are pretty much your only other options, as the onshore winds are strong from the Sth East at 25knots and are expected to strengthen throughout the afternoon. High tide at 8.19 am and low at 2.41 pm. The patrolled beaches of Mooloolaba and Noosa your safest option fro a dip in the briny, be cautious as the surf is large and powerful, swim between the red and yellow flags. The water temp at 25c.
