Surfing legend Gary ‘Kong’ Elkerton

Gary grew up on a prawn trawler that travelled along the coast from New South Wales, to the Gulf of Carpentaria.

He was a huge strong kid..and slightly hirsute for his age, which got him the nickname ‘Kong’ – and the nickname has stayed with him.

Kong was twelve when he discovered surfing…. and he went on to win numerous Australian and International titles.
