Kelly Slater (USA) has been selected as the 2023 WSL season wildcard, giving him entry into the 2023 Championship Tour events following the Mid-season Cut, plus entry into the first half of the 2024 CT season.
Slater is a former x11 World Champion and his points will be eligible for this season’s WSL Final 5.
The last 5 Tour events (see schedule below) will be a down to the wire run leading into the Final 5 at Trestles, with J-bay and Teahupo?o being favoured locations of Slater, having won events there in the past, plus the pumping right hand point break of Punta Roca in El Salvador, well suited to the former x11 Champ.
Johanne Defay (France) has also been selected as a former WSL Final 5 surfer with her points going into the back half of the WSL ’23 tour also eligible for the end of season’s WSL Final 5.
Brisa Hennessy (Costa Rica) and Miguel Pupo (Brazil) have been awarded the 2024 WSL season wildcards, meaning they will receive entry to all five events in the first half of the 2024 CT season.
